The Salvation Army, North and South Carolina Division, Waynesville Corps, Headquarters located in Waynesville, Western North Carolina, has been providing healing and hope for decades to those in need. And, this year will be no different.
One of the Salvation Army's most cherished holiday traditions is the "Angel Tree Program." Due to the flooding and despair inflicted by Hurricane Helene in the Western Carolina Region, the "Angel Tree Program" began in early October for sign-ups and wishes. The "Angel Tree Program" that is facilitated in the Waynesville Corps, Headquarters, Waynesville, North Carolina provides Christmas cheer to over 900 people in the seven westernmost counties of North Carolina. This beautiful program has three categories of Angels. First, are the children and teens(birth to 14). Second, are the Seniors(65 and up). Third, are those with disabilities(any age). Distribution is December 16-19 to nine sites across the seven counties.
As part of the "Angel Tree Program" this year for the Western Carolina Region, the children and families will be receiving copies of Glenna C. Orr's books, "Remembering With The Heart, Stories by America's Finest, and "Giving With The Heart, An Intergenerational Story." Glenna Orr's career as a public school teacher, and the Founder and Director of Kind Kids Inc., a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that instills volunteerism in community activities, and promotes reading for individuals of all ages has led her to writing eight children's books. Shown holding Glenna's books left to right, are Major Susan Rodgers and Major Michael Rodgers, Corps Officers, Waynesville, North Carolina.
All in the spirit of "Keep The Giving Going For Those In Need," special thanks are in order for David Carriker, The Salvation Army, Public Relations Coordinator, North and South Carolina Division, Waynesville Corps, for collaborating with Glenna C. Orr on behalf of the "Angel Tree Program," and to Sheriff Mark Buchanan, Clay County, North Carolina, and Chief Deputy Todd Wingate, Clay County, North Carolina for a timely book delivery alongside their many tireless efforts for the Western Carolina Region.
